September 4th, 2024:
By that I mean that I have a few self-published works on the Amazon Kindle store. They are short stories, most people in the writing community call them very short stories or "flash fiction" because they're only a few pages long each. Three of them are only about 1,000 words long. I would recommend, if you'd like to read my writing as it is right now, getting a Kindle Unlimited account. I'm not trying to sell for Amazon, they don't need my help, but I do believe that a 3-page story is worth less than a dollar, and that's the minimum amount that an author can charge for their works on Kindle. An unlimited account will allow you to read them all for free, I think, but you have to pay for the subscription, so if you read a lot it might be worth it. Alternatively, you can wait until I make an anthology. When I finish compiling all my works into one book, it'll have more words, and I'll feel better about how much I charge for it.
Of course, I won't mind if want to pay me a few bucks for everything I've published thus far, Just know that you'd be paying me more than I think it's worth.
Check out Eric's Amazon Author Page. That will give you access to everything I have published, and if you click follow, it will notify you whenever I publish anything new, including the upcoming anthology.
One thing you won't get on my Amazon Page, though, is insight on the creative process, a little story about the cover art creation, and what kind of things will be coming in the future.
One of my friends, and partners in the Ninja Rooster department, is a bit of a wizard in Photoshop. He makes all kinds of stuff for fun, so seeing that, one day I asked him to do a cover for me. This is a photograph that he worked his magic on and delivered just what I was asking for.
If you didn't gather from the cover, this short story is about an alien invasion. This is the longest short that I have published currently, clocking in at around 3,700 words. For reference, an average book is 30-40,000. So this is about a chapter worth of reading.
This will be included in the upcoming anthology, along with the other stuff I have published, and maybe a new story or two.
This is my favorite cover art thus far, which is fitting because it both cost me the most and is probably my favorite short story that I've written. It was made by a friend of mine and fellow writer who just happens to own a graphic design company. I asked him if he could make the image and he came through for me. I of course paid him for his time and effort; support small businessess!
We were part of a writing group who critiqued each other's work for quite some time, until the website hosts had to discontinue it. That was a sad day, and we never fully recovered. We tried, but the magic was gone. We had monthly writing contests, which this particular story won once. It was the first time I had ever won a prize for my writing, and even though it was only a $25 gift card on a small website, it was more the fact that I beat several great writers that I looked up to and thought very highly of their work. It marked the moment that I considered my writing good enough that others might want to pay real money for it.
The description on Amazon for this title reads: "A very short story about practicality giving way to the unreasonable in the face of the illogical." The story is so short that if I include more it'll give too much away.
This will be included in the upcoming anthology, along with the other stuff I have published, and maybe a new story or two.
OK, so I get the title reminds you of poop that doesn't sink, but it's actually a very short story about a man who descends into paranoid madness. Or does he? Check it out, this one is a short horror, but I threw in a couple of humorous lines too.
This cover was the first one I tackled by myself. With machine learning programs creating some really cool art, I figured I would try my hand at it for my covers. It came out pretty good, so I think I'll be doing all my covers from here on.
This will be included in the upcoming anthology, along with the other stuff I have published, and maybe a new story or two.
This is my second machine learning cover and looks cleaner than Floaters because of the subject matter, but probably just cleaner in general. This is a very short story about what happens to all the ideas that never come to be.
This will be included in the upcoming anthology, along with the other stuff I have published, and maybe a new story or two.
I have a few things in the works. Some short stories are written already and waiting in the wings to be included in the upcoming anthology (title unknown).
I have a short story that I'm debating on expanding to at least a short novel, or if I should just release it as is. If I don't expand it I could include it in the anthology, if I do It'll be its own thing and I'll have to write a few more shorts... We shall see.
A couple larger projects are rolling around in the noggin as well. I'm writing sci-fi novel about a dystopian future where robots piloted by Artificial Intelligence are trying to bring humanity back into existence.
And the big one, the reason I started writing in the first place: Infragilis. It's a massive undertaking that I've done more world-building than writing on, but it started as an idea for a comic book. A classic superhero team fights super-villains in issued fashion. Sometimes I still wonder if it'd be better as a graphic novel, but then I remember I'm not that great at drawing. Yes, there's the machine-learning-assisted art, but that only goes so far. The story evolved into something much greater than simple good guy vs. bad guy stuff (which is not a concept I subscribe to anyway, I believe morality is not so black and white).
Either way, the task is a mountain and my climbing gear is broken. One day I might finish it, but I'll release the shorter things first to get more projects under my belt before undertaking this feat. For now, subscribe to my Amazon Author Page and keep an eye out for new stuff!
